HerStory

Turning History into HerStory, because every milestone matters. We feature and celebrate our woman brigade who have been an integral part of the RBL Bank story.

Vani Shetty has been with RBL Bank for over 5 years. Let’s know more about her journey.

Q: From your first day to today - what's the one value at RBL Bank that has remained constant and continues to inspire you?

A: One of the values that continuously inspires me till today at RBL Bank is “entrepreneurship”. In my journey I have been given a lot of opportunities to experiment and take calculated risks. This has enabled me to respond effectively to change and take more ownership.

Q: What's your proudest achievement at the Bank, and how did the organization enable it?

A: There are many experiences to talk about, however one that stands out is - I was assigned to launch a HR module within 1 month of joining the Bank and we were running on a tight ship as far timelines are concerned and the developers on the vendor side weren’t aligned to our deliverables. Despite these challenges, we still were able to go ahead and launch it, as the HOD and the Bank supported me by aligning the requisite resources and giving authority to take decisions quickly, helped me navigate the organisational networks effectively and respected my point of view & line of thinking. Additionally I was also given a room to fail and recoup which gave me a lot of confidence to find new ways to reach the finish line. This project also enabled me to settle in the organisation within the first 90 days and gave me a peek of what I can achieve if I have my mind in the right place.

Q: Which aspects of the Bank’s culture have been most empowering in your professional journey?

A: The aspects that have been most empowering are -
  • Opportunity to try new things and take accountability for success and failures.
  • Respect for your opinions.
  • Care for your growth.

Q: How has the Bank supported your growth both as a professional and as an individual?

A: I had a lot of support from my Managers and HOD throughout my journey in the Bank. Initially, they showed immense trust in my capabilities and realised that my strengths lies in executing projects effectively and ability to navigate the uncertain. Every year I was challenged with a new portfolio which I hadn’t worked on earlier. This kept the excitement going YOY and I was able to deliver effectively too. Nonetheless, I have to say that RBL Bank surely knew how to make me stay here for 5 years and more.

Q: Looking back at your journey, what would you tell other women about building a career at RBL Bank?

A: Couple of things I would like to tell my fellow women colleagues are -
  • Own your worth – Recognise your uniqueness & strengths, and take time to celebrate both small & big success. Helps drive away the imposter syndrome and self-doubt.
  • Step out of your comfort zone and raise your hands for new opportunities, as the fabric of our Bank is all about getting out there and doing your bit on new assignments. The entire support structure is enabled to facilitate your successful execution. This has helped me grow and it will surely do the same for all.
