Prepaid Cards
A prepaid card is a payment card issued by a bank and loaded with a specific value on behalf of a corporate (paying organization) to a payee (recipient). The payee can withdraw cash or pay for purchases at merchant stores and online web portals up to the value loaded on the card.
Product Features
- It is simple to use, like any other debit or credit card, withdrawals and payments are made using standard card technology, i.e. RuPay, Visa or Mastercard branded PIN enabled.
- Once the money has been spent, the card is disposed or is reloaded (depending upon the type of prepaid instrument issued).
- while the cardholder ends up getting a physical or electronic prepaid instrument, there is no need to open any saving or current account with the bank.
- To safeguard against frauds or unauthorized usage of the card if it is lost or stolen, transactions done on merchant stores or on a website is protected with additional PIN or password known only to the card holder.
Prepaid card can be used as promotional tool for customer acquisition, compensation tool for employee or dealer incentive payment, disbursement tool for claims settlement or gifting tool for corporate gifting purpose.

There will be a separate variant of "Retail" Prepaid Card which will be released for retail issuance to individuals as direct customers. These cards will be made available to branch as well as BC Agents for issuance. Like our other agent led services (e.g. Domestic Money Transfers), agents will have to become a Business Correspondent (BC) to be able to distribute or extend prepaid services.

The RBI requirement is applicable on Savings Bank Accounts and PMJDY Accounts. Prepaid card is not covered under the said guidelines.
Corporate salary accounts are offered only to pre-screened corporates and not all companies qualify the criteria. There are thresholds defined w.r.t minimum numbers of employees, minimum average salary uploads of "x" thousand and more. Companies with high attrition rate, very low average salary payouts are not targeted by Corporate Salary BD team. No such criterion is defined for prepaid card. It serves as the best alternate to all such customers who are rejected by the Corp Salary BD team.
No, it should be avoided as it leads to various operational and financial issues. It is very diffcult to predict the cardholder behavior w.r.t. how many times ATM withdrawals will be done, corporate may not be in a position to absorb all cost and program may not look feasible. No, there is no linked current orsavings account against the prepaid cards issued and hence cheque books cannot be issued. We DO NOT issue cheque books or account statements for prepaid cards.
No, the very nature of the product and cost dynamics does not justify personalization of cards. However, personalization is possible in case of big MOQ. Please consult with product team for feasibility.

We issue magstripe cards to be swiped for purchases at POS terminals along with secured PIN entry to authorize the transaction.
No. GPR Cards are issued against application or at the request of the corporate.
The corporate needs to place a request for renewal of the plastic card in advance. A new card will be issued and the available balance will be transferred to the new card within 7 working days from the date of request received by the bank.
